Lasting Powers of Attorney
There may come a time when, because you are incapable of managing your property and financial affairs or personal welfare, you will need someone to do this for you. This could be because of absence due to travel, illness or accident, or a need for a deputy in business or personal affairs.
A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document that lets you appoint someone you trust as an “Attorney” to make decisions on your behalf. (You can formally appoint a friend, relative or professional at your Attorney”).
Lasting Powers of Attorney can be prepared at any time while you have capacity but have no legal standing until they are registered with the Office of the Public Guardian. Once registered an LPA can be used whether or not you have mental ability to act for yourself or not.
There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney, one that deals with your Property and Affairs and the other that deals with your Personal Welfare.
Our specialist practitioners will explain how these documents can be best used to support your circumstances in accordance with your wishes.
